Why $ECHO exists

On 17 and 18 October, the Dwingeloo Radio Telescope sent radio signals to Venus, and Astropeiler Stockert received the echoes from the planet's surface. Each signal travelled about 42 million km each way. The team decoded a 10-character message from the echo that read VENUS ECHO.
